Vision & voice

Film From the South is an annual festival celebrating global cinema, with a focus on stories and voices from Asia, Africa, and Latin America. This project aimed to create a series of strong, iconic illustrated motion trailers that captured the festival’s essence – trailers that would not only announce the event, but also evoke its underlying stories and cultural richness.

Process

I led the motion design and collaborated closely with illustrators and the festival team to develop a cohesive visual narrative for each trailer. Our process involved exploring cultural motifs, symbolic imagery, and abstract metaphors to create films that felt both contemporary and rooted in place.

Each trailer was designed with a subliminal underlying story that hinted at the emotional and thematic breadth of the films being showcased, celebrating diversity while maintaining a unified festival identity.

Brand in motion

The final trailers became signature pieces for Film From the South’s cinema and online presence. They set the tone for the festival, building anticipation while reflecting its mission to connect audiences with global perspectives through film. These motion pieces elevated the festival brand beyond announcements – positioning it as a thoughtfully curated experience of design, culture, and cinematic storytelling.
